# runner

> Set up and tune this repository's trail runners.

Manage the trail runner configs in `.entire/runners/`.

```bash theme={null}
entire runner SUBCOMMAND
```

`entire runner` is experimental and is hidden from the top-level help. A [runner](/glossary#runner) scores and reviews a branch's changes; this command manages the per-repository set: risk, confidence, drift, security, review, and others.

## runner setup

Create and tailor this repository's trail runners.

```bash theme={null}
entire runner setup [RUNNER] [flags]
```

`setup` creates the default runner set in a repository that has none, and tailors the generic templates to this repository using gathered signal: its documentation and structure, merged pull requests and issues, checkpoint churn hotspots, and past trail findings.

In a terminal with no flags, `setup` asks whether you want the generic defaults or defaults tailored to this repository. Otherwise, name the action up front with one of `--yes`, `--defaults-only`, `--print-prompt`, or `--dry-run`. A non-interactive run requires one of them.

`--yes` and `--dry-run` each call your configured summary provider once. With no provider configured and several agents installed, you are asked which to use; `--agent NAME` names one for this run instead and saves nothing.

Pass a runner name, such as `risk` or `trail-risk`, to tune only that runner.

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--agent NAME` | Text-generation agent to tailor with for this run, such as `codex`. Skips the provider choice and saves nothing. Only applies to runs that tailor: `--yes`, `--dry-run`, or choosing to tailor at the prompt. |
| `--debug-dir DIRECTORY` | Write the assembled prompt as `prompt.txt` and, when a provider runs, its raw response as `response.txt`, to this directory. |
| `--defaults-only` | Create the generic default runners and stop. No tailoring, and no provider call. |
| `--dry-run` | Show the tailoring as a diff and write nothing. |
| `--limit N` | How many recent pull requests, issues, and trails to sample. Defaults to `20`. |
| `--print-prompt` | Create the default runners if missing, then print the tailoring prompt for your own agent to run instead of calling a provider. |
| `--sources SOURCES` | Comma-separated data sources to gather: `repo`, `prs`, `checkpoints`, `trails`, or `all`. Defaults to `all`. |
| `-y, --yes` | Create the default runners if missing, then tailor them to this repository in place. |

```bash theme={null}
# Create the default runners and tailor them to this repository
entire runner setup --yes
# Create the generic defaults and stop
entire runner setup --defaults-only
# Print the tailoring prompt for your own agent
entire runner setup --print-prompt
# Preview the tailoring for the risk runner without writing
entire runner setup risk --dry-run --sources repo
```

> [!WARNING]
>
> `--yes` rewrites files in `.entire/runners/`. Review changes with `git diff -- .entire/runners/` before committing.
